GoPro Fusion : GoPro has announced a pilot program for GoPro Fusion, its 5.2K resolution spherical camera designed to be the ultimate recording device for both fully immersive virtual reality content and for conventional video and photo formats.

Starting this Thursday, professional content creators can apply to participate in the pilot program expected to be released this summer.

“GoPro Fusion is just that, the ability to record all angles simultaneously as if you had six GoPro cameras merged into one,” said GoPro founder and CEO Nicholas Woodman. “Whether to film virtual reality or traditional content with fixed perspective, Fusion represents the latest generation in versatile spherical recording,” he added.

In addition to high-performance spherical recording for fully immersive virtual reality experiences, GoPro Fusion’s 5.2K resolution allows for a new Creative OverCapture solution, which gives content creators the flexibility to produce conventional video and non-virtual reality on HD quality from the angles recorded spherically, explains the company.

Fusion is compatible with GoPro’s wide range of hand mounts and accessories. This summer the company will work closely with a selection of pilot partners – including brands, agencies and content creators – to further refine the user experience and produce inspiring content that demonstrates Fusion’s creative potential before launching at Market by the end of 2017.
